The Bright Stars of Marriage Equality w/ Greg Bourke
Friday Aug 27, 2021
Friday Aug 27, 2021
Have you've ever wondered about Kentuckyâs role in the landmark case, Obergefell v. Hodges? The landmark case held that the fundamental right of marriage also applied to same-sex marriages and ruled that state bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional. This made "gay marriage" legal in all 50 states. Well, it actually went to the Supreme Court due to a split between the circuits as to the laws constitutionality, and Greg Bourke was one of the named plaintiffs in Bourke v. Beshear, the Kentucky case that was eventually consolidated into Obergefell v. Hodges.
In this episode, Kurtis sits down with Greg Bourke, author of "Gay, Catholic, and American" and plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court ruling that overturned same-sex marriage bans in the United States and discusses his life, partner, raising children, time of advocacy in the Catholic Church and The Boy Scouts of America.

Hosted By: Kurtis Sunset
Kentucky born and raised, Kurtis loves both his rural heritage and the culture that surrounds his sexuality as a gay man. Weathering Rainbows started as an endeavor to bring about a more honest voice and understanding of the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals in rural areas.
Often times, stereotypes show rural gays as entirely unhappy, damaged by religious backgrounds, and unable to live wonderful lives. However, this show demonstrates that a religious upbringing, growing up in poverty, and other issues facing rural areas have had both positive and negative impacts on the lives of members of the LGBTQ+ community. Wherever our tracks take us, we will always carry a piece of our rural homes, and the rainbow will always touch our shoulder.
